Knowing that fast fashion is one of the biggest contributors for environment pollution, high-street brand H&M is here to change it by exploring the beauty of waste. In their latest Conscious Exclusive A/W20 Collection, the brand have crafted exquisite pieces from sustainably sourced materials made from waste which was normally thrown away is now purposefully transformed into treasures to be loved and reused.
Literally creating beauty from waste, the collection included innovative fabrics and processes that transform food crop waste into a natural fibre, fabrics made from sustainably sourced wood pulp or use a unique garment-to-garment process. The materials can be found in womenswear pieces such as opulent evening gowns in black and green jacquard taffeta, yellow jacquard or festooned with dusty green flowers, mingling with voluminous tops and tailored suiting. Dramatic volume, softly structured shapes and glamorous ruffles collude with an edgy undertone to create a darkly alluring look and feel. Also menswear makes a return to Conscious Exclusive; there’s a classic tuxedo, luxe suiting, shirting and a yellow jacquard jacket.
If you think the collection are exclusive to only clothing, then think again. Even accessories are crafted from recycled metals, waste biomass, vegan leather partly made from wine by-products and even floral prints from peeled off wallpaper over time or tapestries from days gone by.
